Description
Natural Birch log slabs and Fir bark slabs are handmade by Rewood Products, LLC, in Damascus, Oregon from real birch logs and real Fir bark. Select from the three slab options offered for this listing:Doulas Fir Bark - ~6-8" width. ~10" length. thickness varies between ~1/2"-2". Bark front surface is highly textured, but the backside of the bark is fairly smooth, which helps with mounting the bark if you choose to do so.
Birch Log Outer - ~6-8" width. ~10" length. thickness varies between ~1/2"-2". This slab has bark over the entire front surface of the slab. The back side is the interior of the log. It is a rough cut and so will have horizontal textured lines perpendicular to the length of the slab. The bark surface has the curvature of the outer surface of a log. This can be seen in the photo showing the end of the slab.
Birch Log Inner - ~6-8" width. ~10" length. thickness varies between ~1/2"-2". This slab is cut from the inner portion of the log, so you will only see bark along the two outer edges along the length of the slab. It is a rough cut on both sides of the slab, so you will see horizontal texture lines perpendicular to the length of the slab.
All dimensions are approximate. With natural log slabs such as these, it is difficult to give a precise dimension for multiple pieces.
The birch slabs are rough cut, so you will see surface roughness and horizontal lines from the cut. There may be some cracking. This is a natural artifact of cutting slabs from logs. With any natural log slabs, there is some risk of additional cracking, or even splitting with time. These slabs are aged, so any additional splitting is unlikely. There is also some risk that the bark can separate from the inner wood. If it happens, it will occur in large pieces, and the bark can be easily glued back into place.
